An interesting start to the novel, a person speaks in the afterlife, or just after they have died.
A sad beginning to another character, abused by the partner and mother, no support and caught in a situation she can’t get out of.
I instantly felt a connection with the character; feeling how hard it was and hoping she would find a way to get out. One of the noticeable aspects about this novel is how the character is portrayed. I find at times it can be difficult to connect with a character, but this character was different. Vulnerable, hurting, alone, in desperate need of being loved; I felt the author laid everything out on those pages.
An unusual turn in the novel in which a visitor comes to change this woman’s life in such a remarkable way; and not in a way most may think.
A terrible tragedy occurs that rocks that main character. Tragedy had occurred so often in her life, but after she had turned her life over to Jesus she thought things had improved, but of course life is always a mystery regardless who you follow.
It is a very sad and depressing story, but in some parts a reminder that we are not alone. Although I did feel for the character, at times the story did tend to crawl. Her walk cross- country to get away from everything, not really conversing with anyone, I did wonder if the story was going to have more of a point to it… it did.
Although at times it may seem tedious, I recommend to persevere. I have read nothing like this before. For those that believe they have nothing, this is a reminder that we are not alone. No matter what we do.
Wow! What an emotion rollercoaster. Some may perceive it as depressing, but it shows where true happiness really comes from. I’m glad I stuck it out, because I wasn’t prepared to where the story was going to go.
This novel definitely does not have the typical ending, touching how some risk all for what they believe in. It is hard to fault a book that has such a profound message to it.
